PuffLess is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your personal information, including health-related data about your smoking habits.

We believe in transparency about how your data is stored and processed — whether it remains only on your device or is synced through cloud backup using Firebase.

By using PuffLess, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1️⃣ Data We Collect

1.1 Data you provide inside the app

We may collect and store:

  • Smoking events (timestamps, types, and details)

  • Daily cigarette counts and skipped-cigarette records

  • Smoking habits, reduction goals, and preferences

  • Cost calculation settings such as price and currency

  • Reminder and notification preferences

  • Email address (only when signing in to enable cloud sync)

1.2 Data collected when cloud sync is enabled

When you sign in and enable backup, we also process:

  • Secure cloud copies of your smoking history and settings in Firebase Firestore

  • Anonymous or pseudonymous usage data (e.g., screen visits, sync success/failure)

  • Technical crash/error logs (device model, OS version, stack traces)

📌 This data helps improve performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure successful syncing.

👉 We do not collect data unrelated to providing and improving PuffLess.

2️⃣ How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Track your smoking reduction progress

  • Provide insights, charts, and motivational statistics

  • Send reminders and notifications (if enabled)

When cloud sync is enabled:

  • We store encrypted backups to restore and synchronize data across devices

  • We measure app performance and sync reliability

  • We collect anonymized crash/error information to fix issues

🚫 We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
🚫 We do not enable advertising features in Firebase.

3️⃣ Data Storage and Cloud Sync

Local storage (default mode)

  • Data is stored only on your device

  • Protected using Android encryption and device security (PIN, fingerprint, etc.)

You can use PuffLess without signing in — nothing is uploaded to Firebase.

Cloud sync (optional)

If signed in:

  • Your data is backed up in Firebase Firestore

  • Sync works across multiple Android devices

  • Easy recovery after uninstall or phone replacement

You can delete cloud data anytime via the in-app Delete Account option.

4️⃣ Data Sharing and Service Providers

We do not sell your data.
We do not share your data with advertisers.

We rely on Google Firebase services to:

  • Store cloud-synced data securely

  • Monitor app stability and performance

Firebase acts as a data processor and is bound by strict privacy and security standards.

We may share data only if required:

  • To comply with the law or legal process

  • To protect user safety and app integrity

5️⃣ Legal Basis (EEA/UK Users)

Processing is based on:

  • Consent (e.g., analytics, cloud sync)

  • Performance of contract (delivering app features)

  • Legitimate interests (improving performance and security)

You can:

  • Use the app without an account → no cloud backup

  • Enable or disable notifications anytime

  • Sign out to stop cloud syncing

  • Delete your cloud account and associated data

  • Clear app data from device settings

  • Uninstall the app to remove all local data

Depending on your location, you may request:

  • Access to the data we hold about you

  • Correction of inaccurate information

  • Deletion of your personal data

  • Portability (where technically feasible)

  • Restriction or objection to certain processing

PuffLess is not intended for children under 13 (or applicable minimum age).
